Back in Ipoh! woot! But...will be going back to SP for 3 days before my official year-end break. (>__<) Anyway, I'm already feeling the festive mood. Bah... to hell with clinics and classes. =p

A few firsts

woot! I won my first magazine contest!! \(^o^)/ A RM600 voucher by Marie France thanks to Hello magazine. The contest was so long ago that I had forgotten what the prize was all about. Hehe. Think it's a lipotherapy session of some sort. Yipee for fat-busting prizes! XD

Also did my first Inferior Alveolar Nerve Block today. My hands were shaking but it wasn't as bad as the practise sessions. Never mind the fact that the block did not work anyways....coz I didn't manage to contact bone, so I was just dispensing the LA in the soft tissues hoping it would be near the nerve. Attempt failed but it gave a more reassuring illusion? =p

It saves all the hassle needed to look for and buy books that are too bloody expensive. (>__<) My lectures are based on books the library doesn't have (curses) so I managed to (thank God!) find one of the books needed for Prosthodotics though the other few are nowhere in sight on the Net. And they HAD to be the expensive ones...(>__>) Since nobody has them and the topics isn't covered in the exams, I guess I can let it slide? Bah, got to prepare for finals anyhow. =/ *sighs* Let that be a later problem then.

Finally got to continue my denture work so I get to hang out at the Service lab now. Hehe. =p Fabricating dentures can be quite fun if you had all the time and materials in the world....which I don't so I have to get them done quick though I'm working at a slow pace. (>__<) I'm on the "better safe than sorry" track whereby I show my lecturer every step I'm doing to ensure nothing goes wrong along the process. Yeah, a noob got to do what a noob got to do. =p

Whee! Back in Ipoh! XD Yesterday's journey was a drag - the bus took an extra hour to reach Ipoh and I had to wait an additional 30 minutes at the McDonald drive-thru. *sighs* Anyway, I was sleeping like a pig the whole way so I wasn't too aware of my surroundings. =p

Been pretty busy in uni after the one week break. We were given another clinics session on Friday so no more early weekends. *sobs* Started my first complete denture case and it's taking too bloody long! (>__<) Ok, my skills sucks but to have 3 sessions for border moulding is just too much! /(>o<)\ I'm starting to doubt whether I could handle the looming stress in the stages to come....=/

'Tis the flies mating season again. I actually saw two flies copulating on my breakfast table yesterday. (o__O) Didn't know that insects also engage in *you-know-what-I-mean* the way animals do. =p A new knowledge for the day. Lol. To follow my previous years of expressing the flies situation in AIM$T through poetic means, here goes:

Discovered Fireflies by Owl City by chance and I'm very in love with it! (*o*) This electropop song took No.1 spot in US Billboard Hot 100 for the month of November. Adore the use of synthesizers and the soothing lullaby-like chorus. The lyrics is also cute (lol?), same goes for the music video with the toys-filled bedroom. Awww...I wish my world were as dreamy. (>o<)

First of all,
HAPPY HALLOWEEN! \(^o^)/
It would be great if Halloween were to be celebrated in a grand scale here. The last Halloween feel I got was in Tokyo Disneyland. =p Even my handphone is in the festive mood. Crooked vines and flying bats...the Everchanging theme for Sony Ericsson S500i never ceases to amaze me~ XD

On another note, AIM$T seems to be implementing some new (long awaited) changes starting from November 1st which are very warmly welcomed. All facilities in the sports complex will be free of charge AND the library will extend its opening hours. Like woah. (o__O) It took them a bloody long time to fulfill their words since the official opening of the Semeling campus. We were promised those a few years ago and FINALLY they're here! Though the thought of all the money spent on the sports facilities all this while does hit a sour note. =/ Now if only they were to do something about the hostel food and laundry services...=p

Discovered Namewee's blog on YouTube. He's the local "rebel" who made a name for himself by rapping the ugly truth about Malaysia to Negaruku, our national anthem. His latest "effort" is his anti-TNB video which is hilariously over the top in a way but I do share his sentiments. There are numerous blackouts in a year (it's definite, there ain't a year which we get a year's worth of power supply..thanks TNB >__> ) and curses whenever the power goes off when I'm working on my laptop or during the nights where I would have to end up sleeping on the floor. (>__<)

Besides this video, there is a 2 parter about his trip to Korea which was cracktastic! XD Loved one comment about the Korean girls, "They're pretty but they all look the same. Maybe it's because they all went to the same plastic surgeon..". LOL~ (>o<) Visit his site for more of his "social statements". =p

Having humanoid features, fins and scales..is this preserved creature the fabled mermaid?

Did you manage to think it was real for a moment? Gotcha! Lol. XD

This eerie mermaid named Pycanka (and many other high quality hoax materials) was created by artist Juan Cabana using human skeletons and fish fins and scales. Hats down for his very detailed construction which could fool any eyes into believing they saw an actual mermaid! ...though I would like to keep the pure beautiful image of a mermaid from fairy tales in mind than this version that looked like a mutation of some sort. =p

Today there was dance practice and aerobics class. Woah, my classmates are active! Lol. XD We were dancing to Jai Ho, the theme to Slumdog Millionaire which is currently going to be our performance for Dental Dinner night. Man I love dancing...jiving to the music and losing calories at the same time! Hehe. =p Many thanks to our dance instructor Dhanya! She's a dancing machine. =) The dance steps are easy to remember since the dance choreography in the film wasn't too difficult either. We still got a month's time ahead of us but we managed to clear half of the dance in 2 days. (o__O) So it's either it's simple or we're pretty amazing. Lol. (^o^) We're dancing to the original song though I find the Pussycat Dolls version more lively and catchy.

One week in a nutshell

What were meant to be individual posts now ends up being complied together. =p Wasn't motivated to write since the weekdays are kinda busy. So these are shorts from last week since it was pretty packed.

Monday
Went to Juru's Sushi King for the RM2 Sushi Bonanza with a bunch of friends and we occupied four tables. The ones who went earlier had to queue for an hour before getting us seats so thanks. My car was the last to arrive but we saved on the waiting time. Hehe. Luckily we had lots of RM6 plates to choose from with tons of unagi and sake. I did myself proud(?) by swallowing down 13 plates of sushi. Wanted to beat Kel by one plate but I ended up wanting to puke the last few plates. Thank god I didn't or that would be sooooo embarrassing. (>__<) He won me by one plate being the one who ate the most - 14 plates. (=__=). I came in 2nd with another guy but yeah, I triumphed over the other girls. Lol.

The bespectacled boy in the corner is the one who turned the tables on me. =p Later one, we went over to Ice Ice Baby, a cafe to celebrate Alex's birthday. Was too stuff to order dessert but there is always space for coffee especially Starbucks. =p

Bought myself Dark Mocha Frappucino with an extra shot. Reached SP around 12am stuffed and tired. Had to stay awake till 2am to allow the food to digest. Hehe. XD

Tuesday
Started Simulation for Endodontics in the posterior teeth. Wasn't used to the "downgrade" at first but I suddenly missed the easy-going and fun sessions we had in the past when we were still noobish. Lol. Had aerobics in the evening and I join a Salsa class organised by a lecturer out of a whim. Surprisingly I managed to catch up and Salsa is actually enjoyable to dance to. I'm determined to continue on despite the class being very big. (^__^) Shake those hips girl! XD

Wednesday
Had my first partial denture patient who comes all the way from Butterworth and we did some history taking and scaling. The man was fun to talk to and we had a few laughs that ended me being "reprimanded" by my group teacher for being too loud. I like the way how Dr. George phrases it, "I understand that you are having fun but laughing too loud will only distract others in the clinic who are doing their boring work into wanting to know what interesting things are going on in your bay.." something in that vein. Lol. I didn't realise I was that loud till he said that. must learn to control the volume of my voice. Hehe. =p

Dunno when I got those bruises on my knees but it seems to be occurring very frequently - me getting bruises from God knows when and how. I wonder if the capillaries in my knee region are fragile since I bruise so easily. (>__<)

Thursday
Back to Ipoh since AIM$T took two extra days off. Yeah, the extra holidays dropped like a bomb and classes in the afternoon were canceled. Like damn I could have gone home earlier! (x__x) They even took Monday off but I had already bought a ticket back on Sunday. (>__<) Looks like early planning has its disadvantages too. Isk. So I back another ticket back for Monday since there was an announcement that there was going to be a power outage from 10am to 10pm on Sunday. No way was I going to suffer through that! (>__>)

Friday
Got my hair rebonded. Yup, goodbye my troublesome virgin hair! Lol. XD Waited 3 hours in the hair salon and the treatment cost RM250. Expensive I know but since they're using Redken products it can't be helped? Anyway, I had been cutting my hair there for the longest time and Michelle's skills are quite good. First time I never have to worry about the messy curls on the back of my head. I even got compliments from my friends so the money was worth it? Hmm. =p Currently it isn't as straight anymore, having bits of curls at the ends but it wasn't as bad as what it previously was. As my friends commented, it looks more natural with some curls. Hopefully my hair would stay rebonded for at least a year~ *crosses fingers* o(>o<)o

Windows 7 Whooper

A joint effort between Microsoft and Burger King to promote Windows 7, we are presented with a Windows 7 Whooper. (o__O) The burger stacks 113 grams worth of seven patties in a normal Whopper and measures 13cm tall with an appropriate price of 777 yen.

How can an average people put a bite on it? (>__<) If you're eating the patties separately, it's no longer a burger. (>__>) If I ever get a chance to grab a bite of it (which is never...), I think I would choke on it. Lol? (x__x) From the amount of meat you're getting, I guess you can go without eating for a day or two but dang those calories would be tough to burn.

Anyway, nice marketing gimmick though frankly I'm annoyed by the fact that they rolled out a new OS just a few years after they put out Vista. I'm currently running on Vista so a Windows 7 would only come when I get a new laptop...which I don't think would be so near in the future. (=__=) Microsoft really likes to milk off their customers heh? =/

Casshern Sins

Been wanting to review this for the longest time but I kept pushing it back. Typical me. =p Anyway, Casshern Sins is an interesting piece of work that deserves much love. Pretty underrated since not many of the anime blogs writes about it. =/

Casshern Sins - where angst is staple food

A Madhouse production of 24 episodes, Casshern Sins is actually a remake of classic anime series Neo-Human Casshern, which explains the retro character designs. Another anime series remake that follows a similar style is Terra e... (another review that is also backlogged...>__<) but Casshern's designs are much prettier to look at. I was gawking at how beautiful Casshern, Dio and Leda were...even the characters in the show were also spellbound by Casshern's beauty. Lol? =p

The uniqueness of Casshern lies in its story about mortality. Not many anime series dwell on this subject so yes, this show can be sombre at times. Each episodes revolves around death therefore it can get really depressing if you're watching it feeling down. (>__<) Furthermore, the pacing of the story is slow so unless you are interested in it, you'll find yourself dozing off in no time. Moreover the story can be repetitive - you are bound to stumble upon robots who are yelling "Kill Casshern!" then followed by Casshern ~~effortlessly~~ kicking their asses and mulling over his existence in the rotten world. (=__=) Putting that aside, the story is engaging though some loose ends were not tied up and some character pasts were not brought to light. Therefore not everything is served on a silver platter, you have to do some thinking and assumptions of your own to fully apprehend the story.

Animation-wise, since the story is set in a post-apocalyptic era mostly everything is barren and dull. The sparse background doesn't hinder the fluid animation especially the action scenes. One episode had an experimental style whereby some live-action scenes were incorporated in a dream sequence. The seiyuu were great - Furuya Tohru can do angst big time. XD Morikawa Toshiyuki is seriously the "cool" character type - he always voices the charming ones (Dio, Tykki, Sephiroth..and the list goes on. =p)

The soundtrack was composed by Wada Kaoru, who also did the soundtrack for Inuyasha, which was nothing exceptional since it constantly reminded me of Inuyasha. =p The theme songs were not catchy but they are quite good with the jazzy OP theme "Aoi Hana" by color bottle and your typical ED themes ballads. Though I was expecting a fast-paced rock song for the OP which would be better suited for the show but it grew on me after a few listens to.

Casshern is not made for everyone - it strolls down a road of melancholy and ends up with little enlightenment. It's like watching a flower bloom - slowly but surely. So if you're looking to detach yourself from the never-ending mindless harem titles out there, give Casshern Sins a try and maybe you'll find a diamond in the rough.

Winter Sonata the anime

Yup, you seen that right. The hit Korean drama Winter Sonata that started the Hallyu or Korean wave, has its own anime version - Fuyu no Sonata. Japan can't seem to get enough of Yon-sama. Lol. =p Watching an animated Yon-sama reminded me of Giroro's impersonation of him in Keroro Gunso. XD

So far I've watched Episode 0 (the series is said to be 26 episodes long) and they managed to animate the features of the original cast (as seen above). Most of the staff are Korean (even the director and producer) and they managed to rope in the original actors to voice the characters. Yup, the anime is in Korean with Japanese subtitles. =p Furthermore they are using back the same soundtrack and theme songs. So it's like watching the drama again in anime form. Since the live-action version was targeted towards the "aunties" market, maybe they're trying to get the younger ones hooked to K-dramas too. Hehe. XD

Winter Sonata is not the first K-drama to get animated. Dae Jang Geum was made a few years back but with the children market in mind. Apparently Iljimae and The Legend (Tae Wang Sa Shin Gi/Tai Ō Shi Jin Ki) will be getting their anime remakes too. Are they trying to start a Hallyu in the anime market? Lol.

I don't know why but Tamaki Hiroshi keeps popping into my mind when I saw the guy in the PV...a similar figure? Lol. XP

After Googling a bit, I discovered that the song 「I can't」 was used as the theme song for a Taiwanese movie 「愛到底 L-O-V-E」...kinda explains why my sis was interested in it in the first place. Lol. I thought it was weird for my sis to know about an indie Jpop band. XD I have heard of them before as they sung the OP theme songs for the Junjou Romantica series which are quite addictive. (^__^) I recommend the songs in red though frankly the whole album is a joy to listen to. They may not sound unique but they do write some memorable songs. Worth a listen to if you're interested in J-bands like Kelun, Snowkel and such. =)

Tzu Chi Charity Fair

Just came back from a Tzu Chi charity fair held in the front field in BLM. Many thanks to Chze Chze for taking me there. (^__^) A few batchmates tagged along and when we reached there, the tents were filled with people.

Vegetarian food and handicrafts were sold with other miscellaneous stuff including plants and massages. Lol. Bought RM20 worth of coupons which were used on food - sushi, burger, herbal bihun and 3 cups of "leong fun". =p Spent some time looking for things to buy since I'm not really a fan of vegetarian food for they tend to taste quite bland. (>__<) Oh, when I was going to buy the herbal bihun I was caught in a stand-up prayer. A Buddhist song was played and almost everyone stopped, stood up and put their palms together in prayer so I just follow suit to not stand out. =p Everything went back to norm after the entire song was played. That certainly was an awkward moment. (>__<)

Little gifts from the Mid Autumn Festival

My dental association organised a Mid Autumn Festival (or more known as the Mooncake/Lantern festival) last night with each batch operating their own booth selling handicrafts, lanterns, food and drinks. My batch was in charge of food and well, I spent most of the time there making corn-in-a-cup. Lol.

At around 10pm, Kuang Ming lanterns were lighted up on the track field though the dentistry batch's one kinda went up in flames before it had the chance to go up. (>__<) Our wishes aren't meant to be fulfilled since we were more into business mode? =p The lecturer's lantern also didn't manage to float up though the attempts by other students were successful. Guess ours was the sad trial run...(@__@)

The Kuang Ming lanterns looked beautiful in the velvety black sky, like a group of will-o'-the-wisp or Hitodama. =p

We wrapped up around 11pm and my hands were still stinking of corn. XD Anyway, bought these few items there:

Kabaddi, kabaddi

When I heard AIM$T (the dollar symbol suits them well =p) was hosting the 2nd Asian Kabaddi Junior Championship with participants from Japan, Taipei, Iran, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Malaysia; three things came to mind:

1) What the heck is Kabaddi? I just heard it was a traditional Indian game..
2) How did countries like Japan, Taipei and Iran get roped in?
3) Why AIM$T of all places? Our sports complex ain't that big and there isn't much ventilation..

The first two questions can be answered through my Net Bible, Wikipedia (It was introduced in Japan since 1979 (o__O)) and the third question could be for publicity and well, basically it is a MIC-funded university. (>__>)

Anyway, it was held from the 25th to the 27th in the mornings and afternoons. Caught a few games and I have pics! (click for a bigger version):

Malaysia vs Chinese Taipei
Malaysia totally owned Taipei, winning by a wide margin. It was eye-opener game which prompt me to continue watching the subsequent games. =)

Iran vs Malaysia
Got to admit that the Iran guys are cute. Lol. XD They have the Westerners look and well, they don't look like they're below 19. (>__<) Their jersey reminds me of Liverpool's football team. My, even their game play reminds me of a football game - the dramatic "injuries" and the fault-pointing. =p Despite the drama, they paved their way to the finals, thrashing Malaysia on the way.

India vs Sri Lanka
Being the country of the origin for the game, I expected nothing less from the India team and they certainly live up to my (and everyone's) expectations. Sri Lanka took the lead initially but India managed to overturn the game half-way through. Spotted some cute guys in their team as well. Hehe. No.2 (2nd in the lineup) may look like a pretty page boy but he is surprisingly agile and acrobatic on the court. (o__O) No.7 is another great player plus he's the tallest member to boot. I was cheering for No.2 and No.7 all the way! (*o*)/ Every time me and Sue Lyn spotted the team wandering around, we always had our eyes looking around for them. =p

Finals: India vs Iran
The finals was on today and both the Girls and Boys categories were between India and Iran. Better luck next time other countries! Spotted my dean shaking hands with the participants. Woot? lol. Both Indian team owned Iran's, much to the delight of the crowd. I only managed through the 1st half of the Boys game for my head was spinning and my sight and hearing were starting to fade. The amplitude of the over-zealous cheering crowd were too much for my poor ears and I was literally wedged between people, feeling stuffy and drenched in sweat, just to get a glimpse of the game. Managed to pull myself together outside the Sports Complex.

I had a better spot earlier but some stupid uncles who came late starting harassing the students who had the front row on the balcony by saying they were "die-hard" supporters. Those idiots started sprinkling water on our heads, whistling and chanting like hooligans behind us and finally they just pushed us aside. I WAS SO FRIGGING MAD!! I was sooo tempted to use my umbrella to smack them. D< But what was a little girl to do. *sighs* I am totally ashamed to share the same nationality as them. If they love the India team so much, why don't they just migrate there themselves. Bloody shitheads. They totally spoil whatever mood I had to enjoy the game. (>__<) The only pro I got from leaving the game early was the satisfaction of enjoying a queue-less and quiet dinner.

Another regret I had was missing the India vs Japan game. The committe had made some last minutes changes to the schedule therefore my room-mates and I went late and were left dejected. =/ We did have a look at the Japanese players though. Hehe. Pity some of them had skin-heads but generally they fare better than Taipei's team. =p

Overall, Kabaddi turned out to be an unexpectedly interesting game but there were some sour moments that got on my nerves. Anyway, I had a "somewhat" enjoyable weekend.

To be, or not to be

Sometimes I wonder, would following the crowd make one feel happier or just being true to yourself? Should I do something I don't feel like doing for the sake of acceptance and rid myself of guilt for not participating in the first place? At times I get this uneasy feeling when I reject given opportunities to...err, strengthen "friendship bonds" and I would start having some regrets about it moments later. However I wasn't interested in the first place and the source of my regrets would be the thought of being left out. Would the thought of liking to be alone kill off my social circle? I feel more at ease doing my own stuff for I am not naturally a very out-going person. Maybe I'm too mindful about what others will think of me as I am not so strong a person therefore fueling these awkward emotions. If I were more individualistic, I wouldn't care much of the world and just strive in what I believe in. But it is in human nature to seek companionship...*sighs*
